Gwenyth

Today it's all about the middle child. She just turned 5. And she is a wealth of knowledge, talent and goodness since doing so.

"Now that I'm five I can read. Five year-olds can read."

"Mom, look how I can color in the lines now that I'm five!"

"Mom, when you tell me to do something, I will always say O.K. now that I am five."

She has beautiful brown eyes. If I could get a picture of her pursing her lips the cute way she does, I could die happy. She has a slight Southern accent and we're not sure where it came from.

She loves helping me weed, and you know that's a good thing if you've seen our backyard.
(Tomorrow the first shall be last.)

Catherine

I love to scrapbook. I have a few completed albums & even more supplies. But the other day I realized that, given that I haven't made a page in, oh, 2 years, I am not currently a scrapbooker. I think that someday I'll go back to that fun, creative hobby, but I don't foresee having the time for that in the near future. I'm too busy digging holes in our backyard for our square foot garden, babysitting E (5 yr old girl) & J (2 year old boy), writing my blog, editing my blog & being afraid to actually post anything because I feel like it's still a rough-draft. I guess I'll have to get over that. Anyhow! I was thinking, if I did scrapbook, what are the things that I want to remember about right now? What caption would I write under each of my daughters' pictures?

I want to remember this ratty blond hair.

The way she says "tanks" (thanks) so earnestly whenever you do anything for her.

Her Minnesotan "yaw." (yeah)

The way she asks "Am I funny?" or "Am I silly?" often when I'm about to tan her little hide for some mischief.

But mostly, the hair.

First. Post. Ever.

Welcome. Welcome. Thanks for coming. Please, sit down. You're already sitting? Good, let's get started. 1st of all, why Mirabilis Multiflorus?

Because "Family Circus" was taken.

Because I love that flower - found it in High Country Gardens (That catalog to me is like NPR to my husband) "In its full afternoon glory, Wild Four O’clock has few rivals. A mature plant will have hundreds of magenta-pink flowers open at one time! This short grass prairie wildflower is one of our most xeric species with an enormous, deep-growing taproot. Plant it in any soil, even clay, where it will get plenty of sun and heat. Once established, it grows best when given very little extra irrigation." I love that. I think it sounds like my family. Especially if irrigation is changed to house-cleaning. & hundreds of magenta-pink flowers is changed to 3 girls. But we both love the sun & the red rock of Southern Utah.

Because I love wildflowers & my wildgirls.

Because Wild 4'Oclocks really do grow wild here in the big TQ. -just like my family! See? Aren't I clever?

Because I am an avid gardener of native xeric species. Er, I will be. Have a little faith in me all right?

Because I plan to blog every afternoon at 4 o'clock sharp.

So, there you have it, my new blog. & as soon as I actually plant some Wild 4 o'clocks, you can be sure I'll post pictures here.
