Bethany, 1st Grader

After talking about the fact that she is six and three quarters years old, she said "six and seven quarters equals seven and three quarters." Yes! I can't wait for her to learn algebra, geometry, trig and calculus and ask me for help with her homework. I'm a former high school math geek with no outlet.

Emily, she gets that from you. If math genius can be inherited, she didn't get it from the Lowe side. (Unless it is a recessive gene and has laid dormant for a generation.)

What? Why on earth does she even know what 3/4 means? I don't think I even remember what it means. While I enjoyed a good math problem back in the day, I no longer remember ANYTHING. It makes me sick that I won't be able to help Saylor with her math homework in a few years. Maybe I'll send her your way for some tutoring.

Emily - Bethany is so smart!! I can't believe she can think in those terms and she is only six, well six and three quarters, excuse me...

So, what are her ideas for an alternative energy source? How about global warming? Is she ready to take on finding a cure for cancer? Sounds like it is only a matter of time.

Your kids are amazing!!!

Haha, I love it! Bethany is a smart girl! I also loved math in high school...just wasn't all that good at it. I did pass the AP Calc test though! Here are a few nerdy math jokes: Making mathematical puns is the first sine of insanity. Hahaha, that's a knee slapper! Here's the second:
Two mathematicians were having dinner in a restaurant, arguing about the average mathematical knowledge of the American public. One mathematician claimed that this average was woefully inadequate, the other maintained that it was surprisingly high.
"I'll tell you what," said the cynic. "Ask that waitress a simple math question. If she gets it right, I'll pick up dinner. If not, you do."
He then excused himself to visit the men's room, and the other called the waitress over.
"When my friend returns," he told her, "I'm going to ask you a question, and I want you to respond 'one third x cubed.' There's twenty bucks in it for you." She agreed.
The cynic returned from the bathroom and his friend called the waitress over. "The food was wonderful, thank you," the mathematician started. "Incidentally, do you know what the integral of x squared is?"
The waitress looked pensive, almost pained. She looked around the room, at her feet, made gurgling noises, and finally said, "Um, one third x cubed?"
So the cynic paid the check. The waitress wheeled around, walked a few paces away, looked back at the two men, and muttered under her breath, "...plus a constant." Hahaha, my math teacher in high school told us that joke and the whole class was laughing. We were a huge bunch of nerds!
